Orestis Kalampalikis was born in Athens, Greece, in 1981. He started the guitar at the age of 7. After finishing his musical studies at the National Conservatory of Athens, in the class of Yiannis Petridis, he was accepted in 2005 in the Conservatoire National de Musique et de Danse de Paris. There he studied with Roland Dyens and obtained the Diplôme de Formation Supérieure in 2009.

During this time, he won several prizes in international guitar competitions as a performer: in 2006 he won the Conservatoire of Filippos Nakas-Patras 1st prize in Greece, the Panhellenic guitar competition of Veria 1st prize and he was awarded the Ivor Mairants Guitar Award (he came 3rd). The next year, he was the 1st prize winner of the Fontenay-sous-bois competition. He also attended many master classes with Zoran Dukic, Oscar Ghilia, François Martin, David Russel, Carlo Marchione, Hubert Kappel, Vladimir Mikulka, among others.

He then studied composition at the Conservatoire de Gennevilliers with Bernard Cavanna and conducting with Henri-Claude Fantapié at the Conservatoire de Noisy-le-sec.

Among his works, three won first prizes in international guitar composition competitions: the World Guitar Competition in Novisad, Serbia in 2012, Lycia Guitar Days in Antalya, Turkey in 2014 and the Nilufer Guitar Days Bursa, Turkey in 2015.

Most of his works are published at Oz Productions and recorded on the album Blues for a Woodpecker (2018).

Besides his career as a soloist, he collaborates with other artists including the mezzo-soprano singer Mashal Arman with whom he produces duo recitals of English music (Dowland, Britten…) and soprano Cybèle Castoriadis he accompanies with mandolin, classical and electric guitar, as well as guitarist Elena Papandreou for whom he composes arrangements of Manos Hadjidakis to continue the unfinished work of his Maestro.

Orestis also composes for the theatre. He has collaborated with the company RL for the show Iliade brisée by Laurence Campet, the company Les HypocritesUrubu productions and recently, with the company Dès l’Aube for the musical and puppet show Yoyo.       

He currently participates in a great project about the composer Roland Dyens and continues his career as a guitarist and a composer.
